The Problem

The homeowner in Whitchurch saw us working on their neighbour’s roof and asked us to check their own ageing roof. Though they hadn’t noticed any leaks inside their home, the roof surface showed clear signs of deterioration.

Our initial assessment suggested the roof needed replacement, but the full extent of the problem wasn’t visible until we started work. After removing the old roofing material, we found completely saturated wooden boards underneath. Water had already broken through the ageing membrane but hadn’t yet damaged the interior ceiling. Without repair, these wet boards would have soon rotted, leading to ceiling damage and possible mould growth.

Our Solution

Complete Inspection

We checked both the visible roof surface and underlying structure, finding hidden water damage that regular observation from inside the home couldn’t detect.

Structural Repairs

We removed all water-damaged boards rather than just covering them up. New, dry timber created a solid base for the roof system.

Quality Materials

We used Firestone EPDM rubber membrane for the new roof surface. This synthetic rubber material resists UV damage and weather exposure for approximately 40+ years.

Careful Sealing

We paid special attention to edges and corners, using proper sealing techniques to prevent future water entry points.

The Results

The new EPDM roof provides both practical protection and visual improvement. The flat, black rubber surface looks neat and modern while offering excellent waterproofing.

By replacing the roof before water reached the interior ceiling, we saved the homeowner from much more expensive repairs. Interior ceiling and wall damage typically cost 3-4 times more to fix than just replacing a roof. The new roof will protect the house through decades of rain, snow, and sun exposure without needing much maintenance. Want to check if your flat roof needs replacement before problems start?
